Areas of Assignment

 
 

PATROL Section

Our police officers “Serve with Care and Protect with Confidence”. The Patrol Section is comprised of 34 officers, four sergeants and two commanders. Four teams working 12-hour shifts provide around the clock service. Officers and Sergeants are on a 56-day rotation between days (6:00 AM-6:00 PM) and nights (6:00 PM-6:00 AM). The Patrol Section responds to emergency and non-emergency calls for service, traffic enforcement, preliminary investigations, investigating traffic crashes, and to the specific needs of the community.  In order to meet the needs of the community, each patrol shift is comprised of a juvenile officer, field training officer, less lethal/Taser operator, evidence technician, breathalyzer operator, elderly service officer, and a Crisis Intervention Team officer.

TRAFFIC UNIT

The Traffic Unit increases public safety through enforcement of traffic laws to reduce traffic collisions and related injuries and fatalities and facilitate the safe and expeditious movement of vehicular traffic. The Traffic Officer employs community-policing philosophies to openly communicate with citizens to solve problems. A variety of speed monitoring and enforcement tools are used to increase public awareness of factors associated with traffic flow.   

INVESTIGATIONS Section

The Investigations Section is comprised of five detectives, one sergeant, and one commander.  The detectives work 8-hours a day, Monday through Friday.  They are on-call for a seven day period, Monday through Sunday. Detectives work on cases that require significant resources and specialized training.  The detectives use their specialized training and skills to build a case using all information and evidence discovered and presents this case to the prosecutor. 

 
 

CRIME PREVENTION

Bartlett has two Crime Prevention Officers. Crime Prevention’s goals are to work closely with the community, while focusing its attention on the safety and security of our residents and businesses by utilizing crime prevention programs such as D.A.R.E., Neighborhood Watch, Business Watch, C.P.T.E.D. (Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design), Business & Home Security Checks, Bank Robbery Awareness Training, Safety and ‘Stranger Danger’ Presentations.

SCHOOL RESOURCE OFFICERs  

Bartlett Police Department has one school resource officer (SRO) assigned to Bartlett High School and one school resource officer (SRO) assigned to Eastview Middle School. The SROs provide a safe and secure building for students to learn in, while making positive relationships with the students, staff, and employees of School District U-46. The SROs teach classes on 4th and 5th amendment rights, gang awareness, health issues on the use of illegal drugs and alcohol, teen driving/license restrictions, and Project Alert in the middle school. The SROs also work on numerous projects and activities with the students and attend school functions and events.

DIRECTED PATROL TEAM

The Directed Patrol Team’s (DPT) functions include high visibility traffic enforcement, narcotics investigations, warrant service, and residential burglary patrols. The team’s flexibility allows for dedicated time and resources to proactively address a variety of issues and resolve citizen complaints.  DPT is responsible for performing compliance checks on sex offenders and assists with parolee compliance checks. DPT works closely with patrol officers and detectives to reduce crime and traffic crashes, while building strong community relationships. DPT relies on crime and traffic crash data to effectively deploy resources in areas where crime and crashes are most frequently occurring.  Additionally, DPT conducts community presentations at businesses, schools, and the citizen police academy. 

Special Teams

CRISIS INTERVENTION TEAM ....

Officers who are specially trained in helping individuals suffering mental illnesses or developmental disabilities serve as Crisis Intervention Team members. 

BICYCLE PATROL ....

Officers who work on the bicycle patrol team are utilized for high visibility patrols, citizen contacts, special events, and other identified patrol areas best suited for bicycle access. 

EVIDENCE TECHNICIANS ....

Trained Evidence Technicians are responsible for processing crime scenes and accident scenes. This includes detection of latent fingerprints, crime scene photography, preservation and collection of physical evidence and crime scene sketching.

ROUND TABLE TEAM ....

This 12 member team is designed to serve as a leadership focused group who participate in discussions on matters concerning the maintenance and development of organizational culture, have input on policy and procedural development and implementation, effect change, participate in binding decisions, improve inter-departmental communications, and enhance professional adaptability and team building.

HONOR GUARD ....

Members of the Honor Guard provide a display of uniformed police personnel at ceremonial events, including swearing in ceremonies, police funerals, and other special events.

TRAINING INSTRUCTORS ....

Our in-house training instructors are responsible for instructing personnel in the safe and proper use of both less-lethal weapons and weaponless defensive tactics. Other instruction includes medical response, diversity, emergency vehicle operators course, and traffic stops.

EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT TEAM ....

The EMT is utilized to assist department operations when additional resources are required in the event of a natural or man-made disaster and civil disturbances.

FIELD TRAINING OFFICERS ....

The team of Field Training Officers instruct new recruits on laws, Department policy, procedures, rules and regulations.


Training

 

Dynamic, current, realistic, scenario-based training is the core of our
ongoing in-house program. Our training instructors are certified to provide a well-rounded

and efficient training environment. We also take an active role in seeking out the
best and most relevant training available.
In addition to in-house classes, officers participate in monthly legal update online training and have the opportunity to attend a variety of outside courses.

In 2022, Bartlett POLICE employees attended 14,203 hours of training

Bartlett Police Department has many diverse requirements which require commitment to provide all personnel with training needed to perform duties assigned in an ethical, efficient and effective manner. Career development planning is a way to train and educate an employee to perform in a capacity where the employee desires to serve at a level that meets the needs of the department and community. In order to achieve this result, the training program is designed to provide the opportunity for members to pursue a variety of career development options.
