SERGEANT CHRISTOPHER JOHNSON

“I think the skill that I brought with me is the ability to talk to everyone. As a child, and throughout my younger years, I always enjoyed talking to people because I wanted to hear everyone’s story.”

Tell us a bit about your jobs before you joined the police?

Before joining the Bartlett Police Department, I had the opportunity to work for two different sheriff’s departments and held various positions at each department such as; patrol deputy, court officer, quartermaster, AFIS supervisor, accreditation manager, and booking officer.

What transferable skills do you think you’ve brought to your role as a police officer?

I think the skill that I brought with me is the ability to talk to everyone. As a child, and throughout my younger years, I always enjoyed talking to people because I wanted to hear everyone’s story. In this profession, communication is a valuable skill that is used daily, either when on a call for service, speaking with members of the public, or day-to-day interactions with co-workers.

Do you feel like you’re part of a supportive team?

The Bartlett Police Department is an agency that values teamwork and effort. One of the good things about the Bartlett Police Department is that we consistently train. Training allows us to work together and become closer to one another. We also support officers’ mental health. We have a police department psychologist that officers are able to talk to in person, or, have her ride along with an officer during their shift. The department psychologist also offers support to the officer’s family.

How do your friends and family feel about you being a police officer?

My friends and family love the fact I am a police officer. They always ask questions about the life of an officer and are supportive of the profession I have chosen.

Why join the Bartlett Police Department?

The Bartlett Police Department is an agency that is very community oriented. We hold a lot of community events and love to interact with all members of the community. Bartlett is also unique because we are three different counties; Cook, DuPage, Kane. We also conduct a lot of trainings. Training frequently allows us to fine-tune the skills we have, whether it be in the classroom, or scenario-based trainings.  This was the kind of police department that I wanted to work for, so that is why I chose to join the Bartlett Police Department!

Hope to be working with you soon!!
